Oh what a GAS!

$5-a-gallon gas coming soon?

I saw an article in the Abu Dhabi paper today that I just had to comment on. It talked about how the UAE gas prices are much higher than the other countries in the GCC who don’t have nearly the oil that we do. I quote, “ Ahmad Al Zaabi argued that the UAE’s oil production, which is greater than some other GCC members, should allow it to sell petrol for less.”

He suggested that low-income families were struggling to afford more expensive fuel. He also suggested that “bigger subsidies should be given only to Emiratis ~~ an idea immediately rejected by the Minister (Salim Al Ameri).” I find that sort of funny since the Emiratis are the minority here in their own country; making up just 20% of the population. I’m sure all of the expats that work for the government and the oil companies would feel great about paying more for their gas than the Emiratis. :-|

So this is how the UAE compares to the other GCC nations regarding petrol prices per gallon.

Saudi Arabia

.59 dirham

.16 US dollar

Kuwait

.86

.23

Bahrain

.97

.27

Qatar

1.01

.28

Oman

1.14

.31

UAE

1.72

.47

For you in the US that are now paying an average of $3.56 per gallon~~ sorry~~ as I head to the pumps and fill up my car for~~ a little over $7.00. Oh, the disparity of it all!
