Books and stuff...

I recently was recommended a couple of books to read. It seems that wherever I go I find women who are readers and more than willing to share their latest read. I on the other hand can hardly remember the title of a book that I read last week! It's purely ridiculous. Anyway, last week I was sitting in the ministry of something or rather to renew our passports for another month until our residency becomes official. It's a very long drawn out process and another, purely ridiculous. So I met a new friend and chatted away about all kinds of random, highly interesting topics. Somehow it almost always leads to "what book are you reading?" and if we are at all inclined to share it is almost always a great discussion. I'm always fascinated with how much we need other women. My friend called it, "a village" to which I so agree. So wherever I go I search out groups that might have my same interests. Maybe a book club, a discussion group, exercise crazies, volunteer guru's, etc. etc. People fascinate me~ yes, even some of the obnoxious ones :-) They know who they are so enough said about them. I like to find out what makes people tick and usually they are more than happy to tell me, as most people enjoy talking about themselves~~ it's true! There is an exception to this though~ my sweet husband.
Getting back to my original purpose for this blog post, the two books recommended are:
Princess by Jean Sasson and The Girl With Glass Feet by Ali Shaw
Princess is a recommended read if you are interested in the vagaries of life for women in Saudi Arabia. It is a sad tale and actually quite disturbing in some parts. But if you can handle that and are interested in learning about this culture give it a try.
The other I have just started so I can't give a review on that one, as of today. Note: I finished this one and it's a weird book~not sure if I would recommend. So there you go~ just a little info for your reading pleasure.
Ciao or as we say it here Salam Alaikam
