For the last 25 years I have been an avid speed walker. And those who know me and have possibly walked with me~ I mean speed :-) My pace has always been one of fast. It's like I am trying to cram everything into this life so I tend to go at a fast clip. Sometimes I wish that I could get my mind to slow down but that is a totally different story.
Over these years I have had a myriad of walking partners. Most have been able to keep up. Some I have pushed myself to keep up with them. Today, these are my new walking partners. When I sent this pic to Liza I told her they are much like the RS gals who frequent our walks; they do a lot of the same squawaking and waddling and she said "but I have to put up with more crap!" LOL!!!!!
Walking stories~~
One time in Utah I was approached by two very scary men who pulled their car over and blocked my walking. I was terrified! But I told them a thing or two and raaaaaaannnnnnn as fast as I could to a friend's house.
One time in Victorville, CA I was on a brisk walk around our little lake community. It was a beautiful evening just before dusk. I was on a total high. My five miles were almost finished, it was a few days before Christmas and my mind was just happy. Then.... out of no where came these three dogs. With their owner yelling at me that they won't hurt me....right :-| She also said the one that was a pit bull and coming right at me had no teeth~~ well, with whatever he had he bit me and the others tore at my pants. She finally corralled them in and I took off for home. I had a huge bite on my leg with TEETH marks and my pants were shredded... oh my! After a complaint filed and on and on~~ I kept walking but avoided that part of the neighborhood. Three dogs~~ give me a break!
I have walked the Utah hills, the Oregon hills and parks, been caught in more down pours that I can remember, walked the serenity of many a cemetery (they are safe from cars, dogs and people~ well live ones!), the wine fields of Sebastopol, the most beautiful beaches on the Arabian Sea, the intense hills and slush in Alaska, the favorite memories on the path along the San Francisco Bay in San Mateo and now... the corn fields and parks of Richmond Indiana! Wow!
I did have a little mishap the other day... I fell. Yep, I slipped on some wet leaves and fell face first on the road. I hit my big nose, my glasses cut into my face and flew away. I can't figure out why I couldn't catch myself. I sat there for a second and a man came up and asked if I was okay. He didn't help me up :-{ but did tell me that my fall was very graceful :-) All this as I sat there with blood streaming down my little face, trying to find my glasses and hoping that my shaky legs would carry me to my car about a mile away. You know, I've decided life is full of little bumps along the way. We slip, we fall then wipe off the blood and other crap and get up for another round of "Yes! I'm alive and I can do it!!!"
I heard this great quote today~~"Everything you are learning now is preparing you for something else." Marjorie Hinckley ( I love that lady!)
So, whatever you do~~ keep walking, keep running, keep moving!
