Sitka Jazz Festival 2010
Tonight we went to the Sitka Jazz Festival event and wow! it was absolutely incredible (5 hours of Jazz)! They have been putting together this festival as a fundraiser for the Arts Camp that is offered to and attended by youth from all over the nation. In fact, there are instructors that are on a waiting list to be a part of the camp. We hear it's phenomenal. It highlights music as well as all the other arts. Anyway, the festival this year offered two "teasers" at lunchtime on Thursday and Friday to attract people to purchase tickets for the Friday and Saturday night performances. This year the main attraction was the John Santos Jazz sextet from the Bay area. They are all seasoned performers, teaching musicians in University through grade school level. They have individually won grammy awards for their compositions; a couple had doctorates in music and education. But the music... it was fantastic! Bob was in ecstasy as he LOVES jazz almost more than he loves cycling! The little community of Sitka continues to surprise us with their oodles and oodles of cultural and educational events. We LOVE it!
