Yesterday, we hiked on the Herring Cove trail to Beaver Lake. This was one of the most beautiful places I have every been. The higher we hiked the colder it got and soon we were traipsing through snow. The path was a little bit slippery as we descended down into the lake, but the sights were absolutely spectacular. Every place I looked was so picturesque. And I was most happy that we didn't see a bear! I think it's a little too early for them to be in that area but in the local paper last week there was an article of warning to "look out for the bears!" Over the past nine months we have tried to see all of the sites that Sitka has to offer. The hiking is fabulous, the ocean is serene and busy with fishing boats and tourists, the weather has been tolerable this winter~~ not too snowy! We have attended dance festivals, parades, jazz festivals, forest service presentations, museums, cruise on the ocean, fish hatchery tour with a very tasty salmon dinner, dinner with many friends, a library volunteer experience that has given me new friends and a love for books and learning, kind people who live simply but are not simple~~ as Sitka has one of the highest per capita of higher degree's in the nation. Sitka, an incredible place!
