Well the time has come to ''get off the island", at least for a few days. We decided to take a little 4 day trip to Juneau by ferry for our adventure. Now you might think that a ferry is a little like a tug boat cruising up the Pacific Ocean. Well, it's not! It's very luxurious and nice and we were so impressed. We drove our car into the bottom of the ferry and then went up to the seating area for the 4 hour ride. It has huge windows to see all the happenings on the ocean; much to my sadness we saw no whales, dolphins or sealions. I guess they are staying in Sitka where it was a tiny bit warmer as they head south to the beaches of Cali and beyond. There were families, professionals, tourists and escapees (like us!) headed to Juneau. When we got there, we drove to our cute little hotel and it started snowing! Yep, the first snow of the year! In those four days, we saw the beautiful Glacier; very majestic and in some places a lovely blue, we spent some time eating and wandering in quaint little ol' Juneau. I have to say though, I was disappointed that alot of the little shops and the tram that goes up the mountain were closed until Spring-- as they rely heavily on the cruise ship visitors and not enough business during the freeezing months. We ate breakfast at a little bakery that Bob said had great donuts! One thing to realize is that cute Sitka, where we are currently living, has NO big shopping stores... none, zilch, nada! So we heard that they have a Costco and a Walmart up there so we were basically Costco-ites and Walmarters during our stay in Juneau! I very much miss some of the stores that I have taken for granted in the states, but oh well, somehow we survive. Well, with all the good times and fun it was time to jump back on the ferry and come back to lovely-winterland showcase- Sitka. I am always glad to go, but even more happy to be home!
