Yesterday, I went with a few friends to the Grand Mosque. It was a great learning experience for me of the Islamic religion and culture. When we arrived, they made us put on the black robe and a scarf to cover our heads. The pictures really say it all; it's so beautiful! Every major city has a grand mosque and they go all out in the design, architecture and stunning beauty. The largest rooms are for men only; the women have a much smaller room but every bit as beautiful. At 12:30 we were told to leave as it was prayer time so we were quietly escorted out. This particular mosque is not quite complete as much of the grounds work still has to be landscaped. The cost must be out of this world! But the Emirate people love color, beauty and anything elaborate and the Grand Mosque is a show piece of all of these.
