We had a wonderful party and sightseeing time in Dubai this past weekend. Perot had a fun Christmas party at the Sheraton where we stayed. They had as entertainment a great african band and each of us were given a drum. It was exciting to learn some of the drum beats and everyone was totally into it. We were loud, crazy and a bit wild! Bob was totally in his element with his musical background; his made up songs on the drum were always the best (so the africans told us!) We spent the following day in Dubai; more old town Dubai. There is a river that runs through the city and we took a Dhou (small boat) tour which was lovely. We then took a water bus over to old town Dubai. It was quite the experience! We bought a few things and haggling is the thing to do there; in fact if you don't haggle they are almost offended...wow! There were a zillion people in this little market area all loud and haggling, it was a crazy scene but well worth it! We then went to the Dubai fort, the price sooo reasonable... only .75. It was created by the Shiek to honour his ancestors. I have also added a few pic's of this too. Dubai is a much more modern and progressive city than Abu Dhabi. There are so many new buildings going up with over 30% of the cranes used throughout the world in Dubai. Bob tells me that in speaking to some of the local architects the buildings are going up so quickly that some of the building standards are not up to code. But it will be interesting to see this area again in 5 years when most of the building will be completed. So...that's our little trip to Dubai and we are definitely going to spend alot of time up there over the next few weeks!
